In “Quantum Wishes – Part 1” I discussed the implications of quantum mechanics in the way that reality is perceived, the role of the observer and the impact that individuals can have on what happens in their lives. Now I would like to expand on this and discuss what happens when Quantum Wishes (QW) overlap. The results of such interactions can truly be powerful.
One of my favorite physicists and lecturers was the late Richard Feynman. He was a key developer of the theory of “Quantum Electrodynamics” (QED) which is touted as being the most accurate theory ever proposed based on experimental results. He said “Things on a small scale behave like nothing you have any direct experience about. … They do not behave like clouds or billiard balls or weights on springs or like anything you have ever seen”. Let’s discuss the nature of this strange behavior.
In quantum mechanics, the likelihood of any individual particle being at some particular place in space and time is described in terms of probability. You gamblers understand the concept of probability when you look for a certain card to be dealt to you. There are certain odds that you will get what you want, but there is also the possibility you won’t. Some cards are more likely to get than others but they all have some probability of being received.
In quantum mechanics, this probability is expressed mathematically in the form of a “probability” or “Schrödinger” wave. Stick with me on this because it’s important. I’ll try to give it a KISS so I don’t lose you. Any spot on this wave describes the likelihood of the particle being at a particular “someplace”. Some points on the wave describe a location which has a high probability of finding the particle of being there. Other points on the wave have a low probability of defining a particle’s position. The important thing to understand is that the “wave” describes a situation where any particle can literally be anywhere (with only certain quantum state limitations I won’t go into). If we use an electron as an example of a particle, we may find that it would be most probable to find it in “orbit” around a certain atom, say in your hand, but there is also the possibility, as unlikely as it may be, that it is “located” on the other side of the planet or even the other side of the universe. Any of these conditions is possible. The location of this particle remains undetermined until it is observed … then, the mathematical “wave function” “collapses” and the probabilities assume a 100% likelihood of being at the point of observation. This is not Sci-Fi. It is truly the nature of quantum mechanics.

That’s enough math for now. I have heard it said that there are three kinds of mathematicians … those who can count … and those who can’t. I guess each of us is one of theseJ.
Let’s now look a little into the way that waves behave and interact. The imagery of waves took on a special relevance during my trip to the shore. Waves are familiar to all of us and have certain properties we all understand. When a wave is passing through the water, we see that some of the water is higher than the level of the water if it were calm. This highpoint is called a wave “crest”. Also, there are spots which are lower than the calm surface and these are called wave “troughs”. Are you with me so far?
When waves interact, or collide, we see an example of what is known in physics as “interference”. When two wave crests come together, they add together or have a positive reinforcement on each other and become greater. This is constructive interference. The same holds true when two troughs combine. They reinforce and produce a deeper “hollow”. When a crest and a trough collide, however, they cancel each other out. This is known as destructive interference.
In QW, I mentioned that when a certain combination of “vision” and “emotion” are involved, and individual can “observe” a future state, thereby “collapsing” the “probability wave” and changing the probability of a particular occurrence to 100% from the infinite number of other possibilities. This is “QW” fulfillment”.

“QW Convergence” (you see, I did get around to this) happens when QW waves (remember, these are probabilities) overlap. The “crests” are the things that are most probable to occur while the “troughs” are the less likely possibilities. When one individual’s QW encounters with that of another and they interact. Those QW’s which are sufficiently alike in terms of vision and emotional content exhibit constructive interference and reinforce each other. The combined crests are higher and thus the likelihood of the QW to produce a certain “reality” is enhanced. Conversely, opposing QW’s can negate each other through destructive interference and render the possibility of each QW to happen significantly lower.
We can see examples of these QW interactions in our daily lives. Leadership is often defined as the ability for someone to share a clear vision with others … and then take them there. The ability to synchronize visions and emotions is what makes a leader successful. We see this throughout history. In WWII, a larger portion the German people (no degradation intended) were provided a clear vision by a charismatic leader who fueled his QW with hatred, particularly of the Jews. The convergence of this leader’s QW with those he instilled in the people produced constructive interference (the wave crests of “likelihood” were added together) making his vision all the more probable. As we know, it worked. It was the QW Convergence of the Allies which then collided with the collective German QW producing a destructive interference and changing the outcome of the war. If you look carefully at the most successful leaders in government, business, religion or any other social unit, you will find that they instill in their followers a common, shared “QW”. Remember, this is not vision alone. A shared emotional state must also be present for it to truly be a QW.
On a smaller scale, two individual’s QW’s can also converge. When people in a great personal relationship are asked about the secret to their success, they overwhelming reply “we want the same things”. They share a common vision. Love is often the emotional tie which binds their shared QW’s together, although other emotions such as jealousy, greed, hatred, fear or envy can play this role. To reach QW Convergence requires a sharing of thoughts and ideas at a deep, non-superficial level. These successful couples tell us that they talk to one another in a close, intimate manner constantly. I cannot stress enough that dialogue is necessary for positive QW convergence to happen. Other relationships, even those which were at onetime successful will falter when QW Convergence exhibit destructive interference. The combination of opposing QW’s cancel out and the likelihood of either QW coming to pass are reduced. As couples drift apart, they often cease meaningful dialogue and no longer share the same visions. Even if the visions remain the same, opposing emotions (love/hate etc.) can set the stage for QW’s which collide in a negative way.
At the risk of sounding sexist, I am going to suggest that partners in a successful relationship can contribute different aspects to get their QW’s to converge. You have heard that “men are from Mars, women from Venus”. This implies that there are different characteristics to the sexes. Men tend to be less emotional and more pragmatic. They are “visual thinkers” with clear expectations. Women can be more emotional and driven by their feelings. Each part (vision and emotion) is required for a QW and each party contributes to successful QW Convergence in equal but different yet complimentary ways.
I have heard my friends say many times that it seems as if the whole world is going nuts. I think some of this can be attributed to QW Convergence. In the past, major QW Convergences were primarily fostered by the great religions. Recently however, the mass media has somewhat displaced religion as a media for propagating uniform visions. The visceral manner in which news is often portrayed can add the emotional aspect which QW’s require. Similarly, music (and the messages in music videos) also provides a viewpoint which is shared by many individuals. I am in no way condemning MTV or any other creator of pop culture. I love music. However, as an avid amateur musician myself, I understand and appreciate the way music can rouse certain emotions. I am simply stating that the advent of mass media has provided the means for multiplying the number of QW Convergences which happen. This raises the likelihood of probable outcomes (i.e. “realities”) which are aligned to the common QW.
I guess I better start wrapping this up or else it may become nothing more than a remedy for insomniaJ. What this all boils down to is an attempt to show that there is power in numbers. QW’s which are “in phase” can yield a higher probability for a particular reality to emerge than a single, isolated QW. Maybe this can help put some perspective into the craziness we see in the world today. It may also provide a few tidbits couples can use to enhance their relationships by joining their QW’s constructively. I don’t have all the DIY answers, but I do know that sincere dialogue is crucial to successful QW Convergences.
I hope that I didn’t lose you on this subject. I tried to be as clear as possible, but that’s a lofty goal for such an esoteric subject. If you have things you want clarified, drop me a note. I may be able to answer some questions in a future blog.
I have a few thoughts about the biological roots of QW, so in a not-too-distant blog I’ll venture down the evolutionary path (actually biology was my college major) and describe where the ability for people to alter their reality through QW’s may have originated. If you want to hear more about my thoughts on the subject of QW, let me know. Encouragement is what fuels my desire to write.
Thanks for giving me this small slice of your attention. I sincerely hope you stuck it through and “got” it.
